Company: ASDA
Role: Project Management Office (PMO) & Governance Manager
I’m a Project Management Office (PMO) & Governance Manager at Asda, where I help ensure that projects and programmes across the business are delivered successfully. My role is about creating structure in complex environments: setting the standards, processes and controls that allow teams to deliver effectively, while giving senior leadership the insight they need to make confident decisions.
There isn’t a single route into this role. I’ve built my career through experience in project and PMO environments, developing my skills over time and taking on increasing responsibility. I also have a degree in Human Resources, which gave me a strong foundation in working with people, communication and organisational effectiveness, all of which are important in what I do today.
What attracted me to this role was the opportunity to make a real impact at a strategic level. I enjoy bringing order to complex operations and helping teams deliver successfully. Being able to support both the detail of delivery and the bigger picture of organisational performance is something I find particularly rewarding.
Over the course of my career, I’ve developed a range of skills that are essential in logistics and programme delivery. These include governance and assurance, portfolio and programme management, data analysis and reporting, and continuous improvement. Strong organisation, stakeholder communication and the ability to work under pressure are also key, along with confidence using systems and data to support decision-making.
The best thing about my role is the variety and the level of responsibility. I work with teams across different sites as well as colleagues in central functions, including senior leaders. It’s an ever-changing environment where we’re always looking at how we can improve operations, drive efficiency and identify cost-saving opportunities. I also enjoy the analytical side of the role, working with data and solving problems to improve performance.
When I think about my career highlight, it’s the range of projects and people I’ve had the opportunity to work with. Being involved in so many different initiatives and collaborating with diverse teams has helped me grow and develop, and it’s something I’m really proud of.
For anyone considering a career in logistics, I’d say it’s a sector full of variety and opportunity. It offers the chance to work on complex challenges, develop a broad skillset, and play a key role in how businesses operate and improve every day.
