Great Bear is a leading ambient 3PL business providing nationwide contract logistics and supply chain management services to a range of customers across sectors including FMCG, e-commerce, healthcare, household, automotive and industrial. The business operates shared-user and dedicated warehousing through an extensive and strategically located depot network, which is serviced by a modern fleet of over 400 vehicles.

Our Heywood site have an exciting opportunity for an Operations Controller to join our warehouse team on a full time permanent basis.

Salary: £29,000 per annum.

Working hours: Any 5 in 7 nights, 10pm-6am.

Job Description

As the Operations Controller, you will contribute to the success of the site by supporting the day-to-day running of the warehouse, ensuring that all schedules for inbound receipts and outbound loads are run efficiently. You should have strong communication skills as you will also liaise with Warehouse Operatives, Shift Supervisors and Shift Managers to maintain a smooth flow of work throughout the shift.

Responsibilities of the Operations Controller include:

  • Efficiently managing the outbound schedule to ensure collection and delivery times are met.
  • Issuing instructions to designated staff to maintain a smooth flow of inbound and outbound work.
  • Controlling paperwork for outbound vehicles, ensuring 100% accuracy.
  • Being the initial point of contact for all drivers arriving on site.
  • Communicating issues to Shift Managers in a timely manner to minimise disruption to the schedule.
  • Participating as an active member of the operations team, and to offer suggestions for solving problems, improving efficiency, customer and quality focus.
  • Maintaining good communication with transport providers to ensure late collections and delivery failures are avoided.
  • Producing a thorough, detailed handover to the following shift highlighting potential issues, reminders and current state of play.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience within a similar fast-paced role.
  • Ability to prioritise work based on scheduling and available resources.
  • PC literate in Word, Excel and Outlook with the ability to demonstrate a high level of attention to detail.
  • Must be a team player who is capable of working on your own initiative.
  • Able to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of on-site systems.
  • Experience and good working knowledge of Autostore and RF kit.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to demonstrate a courteous and professional attitude towards customers and third party hauliers.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to solve problems.
  • Strong interpersonal, conciliation skills and the capacity to network with suppliers, hauliers and customers.
